Teachers engaging in collegial coaching need to feel safe and trusted. This is especially true when creating partnerships between teachers more experienced in SEL and teachers new to SEL, so that there is no sense of hierarchy in the relationship.
1. Create partnerships between teachers newer to SEL and teachers more experienced in SEL. 2. Create personal connections between teachers. Dialogical Interviews Ask partners to share their hopes and fears for collegial coaching. 3. Teach teachers about this Collegial Coaching structure, purpose and expectations. See below for a resource. 4. Introduce and practice Coaching Conversations for effective communication. Use the resource below to practice by taking turns sharing a dilemma in their classrooms, and coaching the other person around this dilemma. Encourage teachers to use these question frames throughout their coaching relationship. |
