Because teaching Social Emotional Learning involves a shift in the way we think about our students and our interactions with them, teachers need to understand the reason behind the language and actions of SEL. Begin with a series of readings around the theory of SEL.
1. Use group PD time to jigsaw chapters or articles from SEL Resources, and discuss in book groups.
2. Allow for journal reflection time, as well as guided conversations using protocols.
